Cobas Elecsys Calcitonin is an immunoassay designed for the quantitative determination of calcitonin in human serum and plasma. Calcitonin is a hormone produced primarily by thyroid parafollicular C cells and plays a role in calcium metabolism. Measurement of calcitonin is particularly valuable in the laboratory evaluation of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) and in monitoring patients with known or suspected C-cell disease.
